Origins:
Litha means "moon." It comes from the Romans, as a holiday to mark the powers of the Sun God at his greatest.

Meaning:
In the past, bonfires were leapt to encourage fertility, purification, health, and love. The fire, once again, represents the Sun, feted on this time of the longest daylight hours.

Myth:
The Earth is awash in the fertility of the Goddess and God. Their powers are at their greatest during the longest day of the year.
